The New York Swing Dance Society
presents dances to live Big Band music.


Location: St Jean Baptiste Church
184 E 76th St at Lexington Ave
New York, NY 10021

Students and Seniors : $11
General Admission : $15

Dances are open to the public. No membership is required

Dance classes are held from 7-8 PM before the band starts playing. There is no additional charge for these classes which are taught by guest instructors from various dance schools. The band plays from 8:00 to midnight, usually broken up into four sets. Recorded music is played during the three intermissions, so people can still dance while the band is on break. Sometimes an intermission will feature dance performances by guest artists.

St. Jean Baptiste Church has a beautiful floor, and is right by the #6 subway at Lexington Avenue and 77th Street. There is a bar with beer and wine and refreshments for sale.

 

In Loving Memory    

Jonathan_NaomiIt saddens me to announce the passing of our dear friend and dedicated volunteer of many years, Jonathan While, on July 9, 2010.

You can still hear his voice on our NYSDS phone machine announcing that there will be no dances for the summer and they will resume n the fall.

Our thoughts are with his devoted wife Naomi Gross. who helped Jonathan keep his wonderful spirit during the many years of his illness. Naomi also has been a NYSDS member and volunteer for many years. Jonathan and Naomi met at the NYSDS dance at Irving Plaza in the 90’s. Naomi has volunteered to take over Jonathan’s job recording the NYSDS outgoing phone message at the NYSDS phone. Our love and comfort goes out to Naomi and their family. Jonathan was much loved for his caring, thoughtful and kind nature and for his dedication loyalty and perseverance and for his commitment to life and to all that he did. He will be missed by us all.
